Party

Monday Fashion Week night out here come some impressions of the catwalk at LNFA2 store at Bikini Berlin. Between the empty rags a catwalk, a dj desk, a bar, a make up table of JACKS Beauty Department (thanks, I love my new neon orange lipstick) and many happy fashion people. On the catwalk Bélier, Maisonnoèe and Studio GAMPE. Each of them with their very special presentation if dj and violin combo or live moderation.

The warm light of an autumn afternoon, laughing faces, a gorgeous pregnant baby bump, close ups of smiles, hugging girlfriends, various patterns of textiles and decorations. It looks like a fall advertising campaign for women’s ready-to-wear somewhere between Odd Molly’s sophisticated Hippie Looks and Tommy Hilfiger’s style of family portraits.

Well, guess what? It’s not. These are pix of Gossip Girl starlet Blake Lively’s Babyshower! The 27 year old actress is expecting Ryan Renold’s (Scarlett Johansson’s Ex) child and seems  to be perfectly happy. There will definitely not be a lack of romper suits, Blake!

“It’s a festival. The whole point is to be drunk and obnoxious”

a friend told me after we returned from Gagnef Festival to the reality of urban Stockholm. Of course I felt the difference between the flush of the festival and the more settled / stable life (or whatever you may call that life) back in the city, too – but I had difficulties with this formulation.

What was the flush, the intoxication that I experienced at Gagnef Festival? It was not the fact that one could be drunk for three days in a row. No, it was definitely more. Much more. Trying to grasp the feeling I shared with other happy Gagnef visitors I can say that it was composed by a variety of different ingredients. First of all, hell yeah – we had stunning weather! It was non-stop sunshine (well of course at night the sun wasn’t burning on your sweaty skin anymore but to be honest it was “dark” for the maximum of 3 hours I would say). No rain drops, just beautiful sunshine which made it perfect bathing weather. The magic of the river and seriously the whole Swedish landscape of Dalarna in general makes the place where the Skankaloss Festival (just referred to as Gagnef festival as it is located in Gagnef) an enchanted place. Sure, through my German eyes there might always be a touch of Bullerby-Syndrom that paints the Swedish landscape in even prettier colours but for real: it is gorgeous in that area!
As most of Gagnef’s party guests come from the big cities Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö they can all experience the beautiful way by train or car to the festival where you see nothing but woods, fields, sparkling rivers, flowers, some midsummer poles and wooden horses. It has a touch of a summer camp where all the city kids can hang out in nature for a weekend and just let go of the day-to-day business.

The festival areal is a place not too small and not too big – with a million things to discover. One of the main stages in built in front of the river so you see the water dancing and sparkling behind the bands while you can dance on the stairs of a wooden amphitheater. The other stages are a hidden cave that was covered in pink smoke the first time I found it and a arena that feels like the ring of a circus where all the wild ponies are getting ready to show their most beautiful steps. In various places at the water where people can jump in the water or in the fields and bushes sit DJs and produce various kinds of music. Different artists, such as Stine Marie Jacobsen (who we also interviewed for SlashMuse Magazine) or Martin Olsson and Linn Granlund participated with inspiring art work and you can find a sauna as well as great food such as Oysters or Jamaican Cuisine, which makes the Skankaloss Festival a complete little cosmos.

If you want to take a break from the different kinds of music, from which Ryley Walker, Tami Tamaki and Zhala were clearly our highlights, you can participate in the Tennis tournament “Gagnef Open”, watch the long board competition or the skaters at the half pipe on the festival areal.

All these aspects make Gagnef such a magical place – it’s the holistic world that is created. People with weak nerves and a giant hangover should better not go to the long board competition as it simply takes your breath away every time they speed around the corner, a shy person will perhaps not enjoy the sauna as much as I can guarantee you to make new friends there who will convince you to jump naked on the big wooden swing that catapults you into the fresh cold river – but hej it’s only once a year and maybe the whole point of a festival is not to be drunk and obnoxious but just to be courageous and free. Gagnef is a great place for that! Our favorite Swedish Festival.

Saturday night a happy crowd of bloggers, DJs, artists, Hipsters, musicians, photographers, pretty girls and beardy guys gathered in the former Czech consulate, that got recently turned into an exhibition, event and party spot of Berlin’s urban scene. The reason for this festive gathering was the 7th birthday of the urban lifestyle Blog I Heart Berlin. The diligent team of  Frank, Claudio, Devid, Suz, Lia and Jens created a beautiful event composition: A group exhibition WE ARE BERLIN showed edgy curated work by:

Alicia Kassebohm
Ana Santl for iGnant
Camilla Storgaard
Carolin Saage
Casio Ono & Anto Christ
Chris Phillips for Pornceptual
Eylül Aslan
Florian Kolmer
Florian Reischauer for Pieces of Berlin
Jan Herdlicka for Finding Berlin
Joseph Wolfgang Ohlert
Kate Bellm
Katja Hentschel
Linda Berlin
Lisa Wassmann
Marlen Stahlhuth
Nadine Elfenbein
Nicola Napoli
Ole Westermann for Dandy Diary
Oliver Rath
Philipp Pusch
Vitali Gelwich

Florian Kolmer’s giant photograph that welcomed you inside by showing bearded Alexandar Jovanovic, which was the perfect connection to the book release of BEARDICTED by Alicia Kassebohm. Her book release explained actually the extremely high level of beardy guests at the party – all showing their artful decorated beards in the book! What was this question a couple of months ago that was discussed in all kinds of urban lifestyle mags: have we reached beard peak yet? – well this was a new level of beard peak in my life (and remember I live in Stockholm – one of Europe’s beard capitals one could say). Anyhow,  as I still can’t seem to get enough facial hair I checked out the Barber Shop Foto Box that was installed at the party entrance. You could make your dream come true and even with a hairless girl face test different forms of full beard and mustaches with fur, butterflies or flowers.

Moreover the crew of I Heart Berlin featured the third edition of the BERLIN FILM NIGHT and presented great musical support of the DJs Entree, Obstsalat, Missill, Padde Unhold and a live gig of Pitchtuner. Obstsalat’s congratulation speech to the I Heart Berlin team was close to a catastrophe but she made up for that at least 10 times with the great music she played.

All in all, there is nothing left to say but: Thanks I Heart Berlin for the great party, your power and inspiration and happy Birthday!

Das ist der Sound für die echten Männer
Die das hier hören wenn sie Pressluft hämmern
Für Nutten und Hausfrauen …

Imagine Lola dancing to these lyrics and you have a brief idea of us at Berlin Festival 2014….

The Berlin Festival is a part of the annual Berlin Music Week. Previously situated at the areal of the Tempelhofer Flughafen for the past few years the festival now moved to the Arena Park in Friedrichshain where locations like the Badeschiff/ Glashaus/ Club der Visionäre and White Trash Fast Food formed together the new festival areal. Additionally an Open Air Hip Hop stage was built up in front of White Trash Fast Food surrounded by different food and drink stands and an Art Village with a free hug stage/ a paint club/ a mini disco/ a market place and more.

Friday night –  truly a disappointment for us. The festival areal was not set up. People with matching wristbands seemed slightly lost on their way from one club to another. After the bar guy disclosed us he was a hooker and only costs 50 Euros we decided to spend some time in front of the restrooms – for the rest of the night. The way home in a shopping trolley might have been the most fun part of the evening/ morning.

Saturday started of with super sunny weather. Equipped with bikes and a backpack we started into day 2. The whole area had become one place. One entrance and one exit.
First enjoying Magda while lying in sun chairs at Badeschiff was a great start. Followed by the Crystal Fighters. BÄÄÄM. What a party – what a show. The Arena was sweating like hell. But in the end a little irritation. Due to the schedule seven more minutes to play: no encore, no show off again, they were just gone.
A little break brought us to a little park side close by. Just to tell how cool Berlin is: While lying in the grass suddenly a firefighter truck appears behind us through the trees. Silently rolling down to a container for barbecue leftovers. Six firefighter get of the truck, one flips his cigarette into the container before they extinguish the fire that had been smoking in there for quite a while. As fast as they appeared they are gone again.
Back at the festival we saw super cool Bombay Bicycle Club which we had to leave a little earlier to see HVOB who heated up the crowd in the already cooking Glashaus. Next up the Editors. A long day for us ended up with Zoot Woman and my very very euphoric happy company who took me to McDonalds and bought me a Happy Meal before we went to bed.

Good morning Sunday. If you think going to a day festival is less exhausting than a proper festival with camping you are wrong. A late breakfast and we made it to the festival ground by 2pm. Alle Farben playing at Badeschiff – a perfect Berlin end of summer feeling in the air. Sitting in front of the Hip Hop stage we watched that little cute boy at the turntables of the Beatgeeks. Father and son – what a adorable picture. German Hip Hop newcomer Ahzumjot made us leave for a late lunch while singing ‘Triff mich am Späti…’.
In the evening a tight program with amazing Woodkid, K.I.Z. and Moderat. K.I.Z. the only act who hardly tried to play as long they wanted to were ruled over by tight festival schedule, too. But in the end won one more real big fan that night. With the xth beer in our hands we rounded up the festival with Neneh Cherry & Rocketnumb.

It was a good weekend, great acts, a lot impressions and an euphoric atmosphere. Some may complain about the sound… but come on if you cannot have fun with friends, great weather and an amazing line up better stay at home and hide in your bed next year. Thanks!

Here we go again searching for eggs/ eggs/ eggs. A childhood memory which might be a pleasure thinking of each year. Finding an egg as an adult hidden by the easter bunny still is a good feeling, right?

Eastern is the highest Christian holiday that we know. But what about the bunny. How did it get involved in the whole story and what made it even a sex symbol in the end or even beginning. A short research to answer this question brings up that basically the easter bunny was there before the arrival of Christian church. In Pagan times Easter was called Ostara, a festival in occasion of the spring equinox. Giving birth to its babies early in the year the bunny is an allegory for fertility, growth and living. Same characteristics are combined with the egg which is reportedly carried out by the bunny. In former times fertility was a major concern of people. Easter bunnies and eggs date back to this pagan festival to stimulate and thank the fertility of nature. In short the bunny was kind of a sex and fertility god for the pagans. And there is the connection to the sex bunny. Bunnies are a symbol of sex. No wonder it was strategically chosen by Playboy to represent lust, enragement and sexual fantasy. Not absurd we guess.

Happy Easter Slasheurs! Find your bunny…

Open up the curtains. Roll out the red carpet and off we go its Berlin Fashion Week again.

Berlin lives from the tourism despite two seasons of the year when its fashion tourism. Stressed but well dressed people hustle from one fair to another fashion show and back. As time is limited and one does not want to put himself on the line to get stuck in a traffic jam, miss a shuttle or even a free drink at a new fashion hot spot its important to dress up smart in the morning or bring a big bag to change within the tight schedule.

Getting up early on Wednesday we started the day at Bread and Butter Berlin – Ich bin ein Berliner. Followed by PANORAMA Berlin to check out the relevant urban and contemporary fashion trends for autumn/ winter 2014/ 2015. Seeing Marcel Ostertag opening his own defilee in a cream coloured robe at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week tent. His collection for powerful women; leather optic, silk, fake fur dresses, see through chiffons, sequin embroideries in cream, blue, black and white. Next stop the Opening Reception of Mila Et Mila Showroom Shop Gallery: beautifully oscillated jewelry. Stopping by at PANORAMA’s Swing up to the 20’s party. Dancing at the Esther Perbandt’s after show party surrounded by completely enthusiastic people – still under the spell of the earlier show at Volksbühne Berlin. Fashion Week Nights are long – a burlesque spectacle welcomed us at Bassy Club to celebrate Lena Hoschek’s show.

A crazy day at Berlin Fashion Week. Thanks for having us. We will be back in summer.

Costumed kids asking for sweets, mortuary drivers at the traffic light and a hallway full of scary decoration.

HALLOWEEN in Berlin, October-November 2013

Halloween as an nowadays established event in german living rooms did dominate Berlin nights for the last few days; Carved pumkins with spoiled brats, fake spider’s web and scar secretion all over the city. Inspired by Wolverine, a bloody fight, organic carrots, granny’s teeth, legless women and Lena Hoschek’s Spring/ Summer 2013 Collection meeting Minnie Mouse we dived into the dark hallway of spookiness entering the Haunted House. Attending the Halloween Oscar Awards with many spooky fellows.

Thanks again to the great bloodcurdling mastery of Haunted House!

The first day of Appletree Garden Festival in Diepholz, Nadja wearing Vintage Butterfly 80s Top, H&M Shorts, a Brax leather belt and Nike Air Max. Accessories are just H&M sunglasses and a watch from Komono.

Just when we followed her 20 wild guests complemented her look and we agree, she looked stunning!

You’re the one I follow
Follow to the middle
Middle of the shadows
Far away from all the sorrows.

Appletree Garden Festival, Diepholz, Germany. 28-29 June 2013
Crystal Fighters were Saturday’s Secret Act and they even stole the headliners, the Shout Out Louds completely the show. The headliners of last year appeared the evening after the big thunderstorm when everyone was sun dried and beer rescued again and brought back the memories of last years summer night love stories. At the time of their sparkling gig, I was just chatting with some other musicians behind the stage, which meant missing out on the love motion in front of the stage and struggling with the feeling to jump and dance like bananas (as I was still trying to establish a semi-professional image for SlashMuse backstage). Feedback from the glittering, Handbrotzeit-eating, mudd-dancing crowd of love under the old apple trees was that Crystal Fighters were their dance highlight.
The other big success was SOHN, who’s ”Zugabe” gave me serious goose bumps although I am not easy to bring to physical reactions (except for some avangardistic dance moves) from music. It was magical. SlashMuse’s favorits, Fenster were supposed to start just the second the crazy thunderstorm shoke the apple trees and drowned a lot of our tents. Therefore most people where still busy getting buckets full of rain out of their tents when they finally played their lovely tunes. Highlight, drummer Rémi, who despite the rain played in socks!
