Fashion Week

LAVA. For the first time Marcel Ostertag presented his new collection at an off-location at Berlin Fashion Week. Live music in the beginning a flashing presentation of the collection and a big final with a singing Shawny Sanders who is accompanying Marcel for many seasons as a model now. After the show we stayed at the location for a while and had a non-alcoholic beer.

The autumn/ winter 15/16 collection of Designer Dimitri is set under the theme Greek Goddess Meets 70s Girl.

Ethnic aesthetics from the 70s and classy drapery of the ancient Greeks are the inspiration of the Dimitri AW 15/16 collection. Romantic chiffon dresses, golden headdresses, ethno accessories and many more details are combined in the tender collection. Using a color spectrum of magenta, lime, green and purple, nude, light brown and gold. Not mixing the colors but showing into each other coherent creations of different fabrics like wool, silk, Crêpe de Chine, leather, cashmere and jersey. Combined it makes the wearer appear as divine 70s girls.

The lavera Showfloor was staged at the Umspannwerk at Alexanderplatz. We made it to the closing show Friday night. Full house and the D. MACHTS GROUP proved the fusion of hair trends, cosmetics and fashion. Classy and expressive hair looks combined with the fashion creation of the Esmod students.

Creative heads behind the label VEKTOR are Kristina Puljan and Martin Eichler. Creating styles for women, men and unisex pieces in a modern, urban, elegant and sportive interpretation.

The AW 15/16 collection colors are black, white, ultramarine and red. Geometric cutting lines, layering of tops and bottoms, padded coats and sweatshirts, woolen jackets, mohair sweaters, bomber jackets made of padded silk and elastic band details form a portable and clear statement.

We would love to have some pieces for our wardrobes <3

A little penis scandal at Paris Fashion Week – ahh penis alarm.

A too deep décolleté, bums, nipples and other women body parts are not worth talking about anymore. But Rick Owens exposing penises as a fashion trend on a Paris catwalk brings a smile to our faces and for sure we are looking forward to next autumn, hopefully it will be a warm one.

We followed the Black Soma’s calling “Try the dark and mystical side of the mirror and find out!”.

Dark and mystical are the right words for describing this adventurous journey through their fashion show in Berlin last Wednesday. The designer Lukas Butkiewicz staged his new collection in an impressively different and artistical way. It was up to the visitor to move and to discover the dresses while walking through a mystical forest with models on swings or sitting on branches. And the dresses totally fit into this dark dreamworld. Straight lines and black plumes leapt to the eye and gave a raven-like impression. We discovered many cocktail dresses and evening growns – but everything seemed to be charmed – in a positive way. You felt like seeing fashion of another beautiful world. And then there was this one girl that got our attention. She was different. She was the only one dressed in white – a gleam of light in the deep forest.

This show was a great experience with a wonderful and charming new collection.

A big thank you to our Fashion Week Virgin Ella Wunderland for this little report from the Black Soma showcase!

Barre Noire presented its collection at the Stage of the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Berlin location.

Entering the room we can hear the birds singing. The guy behind me tells something about a Berlin club in the 90s where they had the same set up. Never mind I was still a kid by then and did not go to clubs. I enjoy the birdsong and have a look to the left and right and it somehow feels like being in the jungle.

As I have a free seating ticket I decide to stand behind the third row to have a better view. The show starts and the ones in front of me stand up. Thank god I am long-legged.

But let us focus on the fashion: complex floral jungle allovers, shirts with matching applications to the bottom, overhanging midi skirts, hole patterns, purple and greens make the collection round. Nice wearable cuts for men and women.

The easygoing elegance of designer Tim Süßbrich will definitely bring some greens to the next winter season.

Monday Fashion Week night out here come some impressions of the catwalk at LNFA2 store at Bikini Berlin. Between the empty rags a catwalk, a dj desk, a bar, a make up table of JACKS Beauty Department (thanks, I love my new neon orange lipstick) and many happy fashion people. On the catwalk Bélier, Maisonnoèe and Studio GAMPE. Each of them with their very special presentation if dj and violin combo or live moderation.

The catwalk debut of Sopopular at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Berlin seemed very professional. Designer Daniel Blechman did present a grungy wearable sporty look for Berlin men. Black in different nuances and textures for the clothes, paint for the mouth and nails. No clean male models but characters with tattoos.

Black three-fourths leather pants, hunched socks and rough boots as a base. Every piece fascinating on its own however in combination simple. The concentration of most of the tops is placed on the waist. Outstanding the transparent PVC rain coat and cape. Anyway the jacket with the swallowtail, black pants and boots is our favorite.

Sadak Fall/ Winter 2015

PENG. Spots on and here we go with our first Runway Show of this Fashion Week.

On my kitty-corner this magical couple  so concentrated and beautiful. Last minute seated Nikeata Thompson in the front row shouting and cheering on the models. My company has no clue of fashion he says but accidentally knows on of the the models passing by on the catwalk. They are tall, small, tattooed, long or short haired. Naturally presenting the collection of newcomer Sasa Kovacevic to atmospheric Hip Hop beats. Coral red, black and white are dominating. The cuts wide and easy. Long shirts, hoodies and baggy pants.

What a pity the show is over. The vibes scatter within seconds and while walking out I catch two girls talking behind us ‘some designers just pop up for Fashion Week and than you never hear of them again’. No judging but this designer has a fan base and for sure there will be a lot more to come.

Ivanman Fall/ Winter 2015

Good morning fashion world. Our first show at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Berlin this Monday morning is the Stage Show of the Berlin label Ivanman by designer Ivan Mandzukic.

Scattered in the white room on platforms male models are standing like frozen. Resisting the pushing mass of press and fashion people who try to get the best picture. Dressed in classy black suit pants color blocking dominates the upper components of the outfits. Whether brown shirts with purple fine knit sweater, pink jackets with orange applications, a brown coat with pink lining or an orange with orange combination. A little out sticking an off-white combination with just a little pink somehow perfectly fits into the rest of the collection.

Dandy Men Fashion with a love for details. And if you are too shy for the total color blocking on the top you still can walk on chromatic heels but do not forget the loud socks.

Lena Hoschek: the bride <3

50s sounds, Marlene Dietrich trousers, volan applications, fake fur, exposed skirts, tuile in combination with fine knit, bustier solutions, allover flowers and watercolor, blouses with artful collar design, blossom applications, accentuation waist and peplum. With a  surge of impressions Lena Hoschek presented her AW 15/ 16 collection at the Brandenburger Tor. With an enthusiastic applause the bride gown entered the catwalk and for sure every girls heart went bananas.

LOVE is in the AIR. Thanks Lena for this special moment!

Today Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Berlin has started.

A freezing cloudy busy morning. To avoid the public transport we choose bicycle and longboard. A longboard is not a fashion accessory we had to discover. The friendly security staff did not let us in and there was no chance do get the board stored. Thanks to the super courteous Adlon people who took care of the wooden rolling piece for some hours. You guys rock!

What we did on Day 1 of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Berlin 2015: Colour blocking at the Stage Show of Ivanman, an etno explosion at Sadak, black at Sopopular and a real Berlin style closing of the day at the LNFA Store at the BIKINI Berlin.

Here is a compilation of models falling on the catwalk.
It’s not easy to walk on high heels shoes and it’s common that models fall because of it. Pretty embarrassing but they don’t give up…

Most of them stay pro and keep on doing their work, some with their shoes, others without…

Early this July the Munich based fashion designer Marcel Ostertag presented his Spring/Summer 2015 collection at the MBFW Berlin. The show took place in an ice hockey stadium in Berlin’s rougher part Wedding. As every summer year around Spring/Summer Fashion Week a raging heat lay over Berlin. The ice hockey stadium was filled with ice cream licking and champagne sipping fashion guests with beads of perspiration on their foreheads.
Then the show finally began:
Goosebumps. A tender elfish being enters the catwalk and begins to sing with a powerful voice in the spot light. After this magical opening the music starts to play, the whole catwalk is enlightened and Mister Ostertag in good old manner opens his catwalk show, wearing one of his creations of this new season.

The collection with the name “Modern Bohemian Rhapsody” is a mix of vivid patterns, bright colours, the Ostertag typical graphical lines as well as floating movements full of elegance. And of course not too little transparency. Lime green, orange and lemon tones spice up the colour palette of the collection: a feel good cocktail in motion!

You can recognize influences of the 70s and 80s in terms of shapes as well as typical Ostertag silhouettes. Marcel’s trademark is clearly recognisable: Very feminine and glamorous design translated to flattering fabrics of high quality with a coquettish touch of flamboyance. All in all it is a versatile collection for strong modern women, who Marcel loves so much:

“I love women. They inspire me. They make me curious and challenge me.”

Dimitri gave a Mediterranean insight into Spring/ Summer 2015 at his fashion show during Berlin Fashion Week. Pattern mix/ color/ prints and treated fabrics are brand mark of the Italian rooted designer. His passion for exotic travel destinations are inspirational to the new collection.

Our favorites: the pure white dresses, see-through lace tops and huge colorful pompom necklaces and earrings.

Our Fashion Week kickoff this year was the SUPERFICIAL FASHION PRESENATION at Projektgalerie / Sven Krüger & Rebecca Baylor. Founded in 2007 Projektgalerie is a temporary platform for fashion, art and music and describes itself as a real alternative dimension to the commercial Fashion Week which is open to the public.

On Monday evening, the traditional opening of Berlin Fashion Week, this year once again the silent and little but not less inspirational and open minded space started off with a Designer Sale at the Butterflysoulfire Boutique on Mulackstraße in Mitte hosted by Projektgalerie. The Superficial Fashion Presentation with MZ Sunday LUV and HllYWD as vocal acts was the highlight of the Gettogether.

Superficial is a unisex label by Anthony Vouardoux and Beck Naylor. And the collection: ‚Superficial is adaptable. Each piece can be worn at breakfast or to Berghain. Ready to wear that fits to modern life. Humor plays a vital part.

Humor and design spread over to all guests standing in the dim rainy silent street. Fashionable people appearing one by one. Drinking beer and chatting. Music, a balcony door opens and HllYWD starts the fashion show. And than when people just gathered it is over again and everything turns back into normal.

We found damm hot leggings with an allover dick-print, which was perfectly complimented by the pleasant boob-dress which was presented by the shop assistant.

Great clothes/ great people/ thanks for the show/ thanks for the beer and inspiration!

We were just discussing the situation of construction works in Berlin when we ended up having not enough bikes and due to the crazy weather circumstances were stuck in one traffic jam after another.

The new location of the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Berlin (which we have to say has never been as good as this year) is actually situated quite central in Wedding but the 4 kilometres could easily take one 60min. In the end I missed two shows. One due to a traffic jam in front of the PREMIUM fair (due to its new concept they had big days). The other one because I could not find a parking lot.

The Bread & Butter turns up with big news every season. And this year they say ‚Bye Bye Berlin. We are moving back to Barcelona!’. The mayor of Berlin had his own style of answering by not showing up for the fair’s opening and dancing on another event. A moment of loss but who knows they might come back sooner than they expect themselves.

And the PANORAMA fair. Successful at the most miserable location (Yes it’s true the new airport did still not open yet.) just moved to the Internationale Congress Centrum Berlin in former West Berlin and rocked with a expanding portfolio of brands. Congrats!

Another point to be mentioned is of course the weather. Berlin winters used to be freezing and summers hot. From year to year the climate seems to change but on Fashion Week the weather sticks to the rule. This year again: heavy rains, thunderstorms, sun and sticky air in a row. What to wear? How to keep hair and shoes dry? But as Berlin is a relaxed city one did not get any comments on bad hair days. The more you meet and discuss which rain or heat did what harm to you and your outfit.

Lessons learned. A swedish guy has beer for breakfast, lunch and supper. Get one of those fancy transparent rain coats to wear while cycling from one spot to another or use the public transport instead. Have a cool story for your wasted outfit and wear it with style. Even people talk Berlin Fashion Week dead and big players are moving on there is still so much more to explore in this pulsing city of change. We are not dead we are just about to explode.

A quick check in with the Bread & Butter we did not want to miss out – especially if it is really moving to Barcelona next season. Situated at the Flughafen Tempelhof it is having the best location. Themed under CARNEVAL DO BRASIL the tradeshow for selected brands showed up in a Brasilian festival costume. Inside the brands on their casual fair stands outside bedded in a summery festival playground with pools, hammock, a container city, barbecue places and a market space for gorgeous little design and clothing specialities.

We had a stroll through the stands met some very nice people and enjoyed a few chilled beer until the bar closed like last summer due to a thunderstorm – but this time only for 30 minutes.

Especially after Fashion Week (it's always before Fashion Week) we question ourselves or more dubitate about the sense of the fashion circus from time...
